India is pursuing ambitious plans to extensively expand and modernise its rail network. It therefore has significant interest in innovative technologies, modern rolling stock and expertise in the construction and electrification of railway lines and in rail safety systems. Switzerland has globally recognised expertise in public transport, particularly in the rail sector, and is home to global market leaders in these areas. It is therefore in the interests of both countries to promote the exchange of information and technical cooperation in this area.

Mr Rösti and Mr Vaishnaw signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect during an online meeting, thereby reaffirming the desire of both countries to continue the positive exchanges to date and to further intensify their good cooperation.

A Swiss-Indian working group was set up under the first, temporary memorandum of understanding in 2017, composed of representatives from the authorities and the rail sector. They exchanged expertise, identified potential projects and discussed existing challenges. The memorandum of understanding signed today will continue this good and longstanding cooperation.

Why is this exciting for you?

If you're considering working internationally or even on-site abroad, the Swiss railway industry is the ideal place for you. Why? Switzerland, known for its expertise in the railway sector, has a relatively small domestic market. That's why many Swiss railway companies export their products and services worldwide.

India is becoming an increasingly important market: with its growing demand for modern railway infrastructure and advanced technologies, the country is emerging as a key market for Swiss companies. Here, you can not only contribute to large-scale projects but also be part of an international success story.

Whether it's high-tech trains, sustainable transport solutions, or digital technologies, the Swiss railway industry offers you a unique opportunity to make a global impact while shaping the mobility solutions of tomorrow.
