New program offering in the Mobility Science degree in cooperation with VBZ
Zurich Public Transport (VBZ) and ZHAW are combining tram driver training with the Bachelor’s degree program in Mobility Science in a joint offering. Students gain hands-on experience in public transport and earn an income while studying.
The new combined program offered by VBZ and ZHAW links theory and practice by combining tram driver training with the Mobility Science Bachelor’s program at ZHAW. The model starts at the beginning of each calendar year. During the first two months, VBZ trains future students as tram drivers. After that, they are employed full time as tram drivers at VBZ for the following six months.
In September of the same year, the Mobility Science program begins at ZHAW in Winterthur. Participants then continue their studies on a part-time basis, working 50% at VBZ as tram drivers throughout the four-year program. During semester breaks, students have the option to increase their workload flexibly.
With this model, students receive an income while studying and gain direct practical experience in public transport. In addition, they may choose to complete project and Bachelor’s theses in cooperation with VBZ.
