Engineers help to shape a sustainable future: your chance to work in the energy-efficient rail industry
Working for a sustainable future with the rail industry
In spring 2023, the Association of Public Transport (APT) presented its new energy strategy. The following is applicable to all public transport and the rail industry: “Public transport is part of the solution for Switzerland’s climate and energy goals.”
Rail is already a very eco-friendly mode of transport – but the industry can do more. By 2040, public transport should be carbon-neutral and there should be an increase in energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy. It is essential to use innovative technologies and methods. New vehicles, better maintenance of current equipment and adjustments to operations are needed to promote energy-efficient driving.
This requires specialists with fresh ideas. With their knowledge and skills, young talented people can make a significant contribution to achieving the goals and making the rail industry even more sustainable.
Apart from the challenges, the strategy also offers opportunities for the entire rail industry. With the adoption of the Climate Protection Act in June 2023, the net-zero target for greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 will be enshrined in law. Public transport and rail will play an important role in achieving this. And junior employees will have the opportunity to be actively involved in the solution.
