Out and about with AFRY's engineers

On 11 April 2024, students of civil engineering and spatial and transport planning were invited to visit the Wipkinger Viaduct to take a look behind the scenes of one of the city of Zurich's biggest railway projects. They had the opportunity to:

  • gain firsthand knowledge of railway construction

  • observe the renovation work and gain valuable insights into the construction site's machinery and logistical operations

  • engage with the project engineers.

The aspiring engineers gained a comprehensive understanding of railway and bridge construction techniques as well as the technologies shaping the future of the railways. AFRY's experts outlined the challenges involved in coordinating the various railway engineering works, covering both the planning and execution phases, and provided detailed information about the interfaces with the Wipkingen railway station sub-project and the renovation of the Wipkingen tunnel.
