Second edition of the Railway Network Hackathon: Innovation for the Mobility of the Future
The second edition of the Railway Network Hackathon was a success!
Together with the Railway Talent Hub, SBB called for intensive and creative work on the challenges of our mobility system. The goal was to bring together concentrated expertise from various fields with aspiring transport professionals to develop innovative approaches for the mobility of the future.
Exciting challenges and broad participation
Participants were spoiled for choice: nine challenges from six companies awaited innovative approaches and fresh perspectives. We are particularly grateful to the many experts who provided stimulating questions that sparked inspiring ideas.
With 60 participants from 20 companies and universities, the field was not only extensive but also diverse. This diversity is a key success factor in developing creative and sustainable solutions. Over the course of two days, the teams tackled the challenges in intensive sessions, and the final pitches demonstrated the direct impact of the pitch training.
Creative ideas for complex challenges
The solutions presented by the teams provide exciting insights into the mobility topics of tomorrow in combination with today’s system. Whether it’s about new concepts for total closures, tapping into passenger potential in hospital areas, or optimizing the annual night schedule in the context of construction activities, the approaches are promising. Some additional highlights:
Replacement transport as a permanent offering: Could a temporary solution become an attractive alternative?
International modularity: How can cross-border passenger transport be made more flexible?
Future freight transport: Focus on city hubs and new logistics concepts.
In his closing remarks, Beat Deuber emphasized the importance of diversity and a return to the strengths of rail transport. Only by optimizing the use of infrastructure and rolling stock can we provide robust and customer-oriented mobility solutions in the future.
It is clear that the second edition of the Railway Network Hackathon impressively demonstrates the potential of creative collaboration – an important step in shaping the mobility of the future!
