About the Railway Summer Camp

Experience the railway system up close over four days, visit construction sites and workshops and discuss with specialists and experienced personalities from the railway industry.

Immerse yourself in the exciting world of the railway at various locations and at different railway and railway technology companies and deepen your knowledge of innovative projects. Take advantage of the exclusive opportunity to network within the industry and get to know potential employers and exciting career opportunities.

The application period for the Railway Summer Camp 2024 is from 12 February to 24 March 2024.

Target group

All university students in Switzerland from technical degree programmes in electrical engineering, computer science, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, spatial engineering, energy & environmental engineering, geomatics, industrial engineering, mechatronics, automation, robotics, photonics, automotive engineering, transport systems and mobility, systems engineering or similar are eligible to apply.


You can expect exciting excursions, workshops and presentations on the entire railway system as well as the opportunity to network with people from the industry. At the last event, participants were able to enjoy the programme listed below. The programme will be similar for the 2024 event.

Place and date

The camp will take place from 9 to 12 September 2024 at the Löwenberg Centre in Murten. It will be held in German and French (with simultaneous translation).


Participation in the Railway Summer Camp is free of charge: Travel costs, meals and accommodation are sponsored by railway and railway technology companies.

More about the event

The Railway Summer Camp is a cooperation project between the Association of Public Transport, railways, industry and universities, which gives young engineers an in-depth insight into the varied railway technology sector while they are still studying.

The initiative aims to increase the visibility of railway technology among students and show them how attractive, sustainable and future-proof the railway industry is, with the aim of attracting specialists for a career in an extremely diverse world of railway technology.

Over the course of four days, students are taught railway knowledge in the form of presentations, field visits, group work and workshops. Students will also be able to exchange ideas with experts during the week and at the exclusive job fair.
